The Psychodiagnostic Assessment Training is a part of the NAAPTC Predoctoral Internship. It consists of one hour weekly assessment seminar and individual supervision. This program involves both theoretical learning and practical application of assessment skills.
Each NAAPTC intern is required to complete six full testing batteries during the training year, and the core didactic curriculum is supplemented with individual supervision covering issues that arise as students deal with their assigned assessment cases and/or issues related to students’ particular areas of interest.
In-depth assessment entails: clarifying the referral questions; collecting historical information; administering and scoring assessment measures; interpreting the data; writing reports and providing feedback to the clients and referral sources.
Usually, each in-depth assessment battery includes a thorough Mental Status Exam, a basic neuropsychological screening, WAIS-III or WISC-III, and the Rorschach or MMPI-2. Typically, these assessment techniques are supplemented by other measures pertaining to specific referral questions.
This part of the Assessment Training is conducted at RAMS under the supervision of Dr. Anastasya Glezerman. Given the diversity of the populations served by RAMS and the wide range of mental health services RAMS provides to its clients, the trainees have some latitude in selecting their testing cases, including the opportunity to test adults and children with a variety of diagnoses and cultural backgrounds, and to provide consultations on assessment and treatment plan development within the outpatient, school based, day treatment and residential treatment settings.
